We will be holding tryouts for the Westwood 7/8 Select FGLL team in March. The 7/8 Select team offers competitive game play and is structured as an add-on to the classic team schedule. Any girl interested in playing for the Select Team must also play on the classic (regular) team. There will be 6 games scheduled for Friday nights plus playoffs.
What is the difference between the two teams?
The FGLL classic team is a recreational team that does not record standings, does not hold playoffs and offers balanced teams of individuals of various skill levels. Play time is equal across all players. It is meant to foster growth and learning in a fun and low pressure environment. The FGLL Select team offers opportunity for competitive play among girls committed to the sport and interested in playing at a more intense level.
When is Registration?
Players must try out to be selected for the Select Team. We will have registration for tryouts that will open towards the end of February. There will be a nominal tryout fee to cover field space and outside evaluators. All details including the tryout date and time will be included in the registration form.
How is the team selected?
This year, tryouts will be evaluated by WGYL's Coaching Director, Kelly Jurgens, along with additional outside evaluators. Performance and skills displayed during tryouts will be the primary factor for team selection. Previous year ratings will also be considered.
Can I play on just the Select Team and not the Classic Team?
No, FGLL policy is that those playing on the Select Team must also play on the Classic team.
When are games played?
Games are played home and away for 6 Friday evenings during the season.
How much does it cost if selected for the Select Team?
What uniforms are required?
The standard Westwood Girls Youth Lacrosse uniforms.
